About

OUR HISTORY
Gender (Free) for All! came out of Portland’s Trans March, which in 2007 and 2008 had occurred in concert with the Dyke March. In 2009 it became a standalone event, and was renamed Gender (Free) for All. The first GFFA March and Rally was on August 1, 2009, in Unthank Park. The 2010 event is being held in Unthank Park, but has been changed to a rally and celebration only, after community input concerning various aspects of the march, including the location of the route, police presence, and march accessibility.
OUR VALUES
- Visibility: The GLBTQI banner is very inclusive, but who one loves is profoundly different from how a person relates to their self and their body. Sexual orientation and gender identity are not the same thing, and it is important to have a separate space where this can be visibly addressed.
- Sustainability: championing sustainability means supporting our local businesses and helping grow and enrich our community through conscious, compassionate activism.
- Inclusion: the right of every individual to identify however they desire, visibly and proudly, whether it’s male, female, other, somewhere inbetween, none at all – whether a person varies in their gender identity from moment to moment or if they’ve known how they identified since birth. We also strive to make our events accessible to all bodies, including providing ASL interpreting at both our fundraiser and pre-show event.
